Hype

Tumult’s Hype is a great little tool but currently only available for Macs. We’ve used this tool for both creating interactive widgets for EPUB3 and responsive interactive webpage animations.

The big advantage with Hype is that it gives such great feedback about which of the effects you use in your animations will work with certain browser versions. So you can be confident that your animations will display correctly.

It also has the ability to see your animations on iOS devices by using it’s iOS app Hype Reflect.

Blender

Blender is mind-blowing - it’s free (although you can certainly donate) and is packed with features that make it a growing challenger to much more expensive studio software. The big advantage we found was that, because it is free, there is a wealth of YouTube videos that explain every aspect you could possibly want.

Blender 2.8 has just been released which is a real game-changer, with a much smarter streamlined interface and an amazing feature set.

If you are interested in learning Blender these sets of beginners video tutorials is a good starting place.
